Industrial
Control Scenario The management of a pulp and paper plant noticed many of its employees
remained at their posts for most of the day, monitoring screens, waiting
to react to an emergency. Their actual intervention rarely took more then
40 to 50 minutes of their time in a day. Problem Decision makers wanted to maximize their employees’ time during their
shift. To do so, they had to make sure those employees could instantly and
constantly be informed on the status of a machine or equipment they were
monitoring, ready to react. However, considering the size of the plant and
the high noise level, adding yet another visual or sound alarm would prove
to be inefficient. Solution Using Nordicom’s AL800. It is programmed to instantly send information to a pager, concerning the status of any machine or equipment. As a result, valuable time was saved by each employee in charge of surveillance, making each one perform better in the plant. Management quickly noticed a return on its investment, since the new system paid off after only a few months of operation. |
